Quality Manager – Sanborn Tube & Fab

Position Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading and maintaining the company’s Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring all products meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements. This role drives continuous improvement across manufacturing processes, including tube cutting, laser operations, bending, welding, and finishing.

Key Responsibilities

1. Quality System Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System 
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, drawings, and industry standards 
  • Lead internal and external audits 

2. Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage Quality Technicians 
  • Train staff on quality standards, inspection methods, and problem-solving tools 
  • Establish accountability and performance metrics 

3. Inspection & Process Control

  • Oversee incoming material inspections 
  • Oversee in-process inspections, including laser, forming, and machining 
  • Oversee final inspections 
  • Ensure proper use of tools such as CMM, calipers, and micrometers 

4. Customer & Supplier Quality

  • Act as the primary contact for customer quality issues 
  • Manage complaints, returns, and corrective actions 
  • Work with suppliers on non-conforming materials and PPAP requirements 

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Lead root cause analysis, including 8D and corrective/preventive actions 
  • Drive Lean and Six Sigma initiatives 
  • Reduce scrap, rework, and cost of poor quality 
  • Maintain company training policy 

6. Metrics & Reporting

  • Track and report key performance indicators, including:
    • Scrap rates 
    • Vendor PPM 
    • Customer PPM 
    • On-time delivery related to quality delays 
  • Present findings to leadership with improvement plans 

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations on production efficiency 
  • Partner with Engineering on process capability and tolerances 
  • Partner with Sales on customer requirements and specifications 
  • Support new product launches and quoting feasibility 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred 
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing quality; metal fabrication experience strongly preferred 
  • 2–5 years of experience in a leadership role 

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and QMS systems 
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills 
  • Knowledge of PPAP, APQP, and FMEA 
  • Knowledge of statistical process control 
  • Experience with ERP systems, such as Global Shop or similar platforms
